The only problem with sanding old carpet glue is that you will use lots of sandpaper because the glue will stick to the sand paper and glaze over the paper s grit which then forces you to use a new piece of sand paper. It s supposed to work well but could soften the hardwood.
Sanding just get a big ole floor sander and have at it. A heat gun softens the glue which makes it easier to remove the linoleum and the glue. If the glue comes off easily enough you may be able to remove all of it with this machine. If it s a beautiful hardwood floor consider sanding the glue adhesive from the wood floor to keep it in the best condition possible.
If you re removing linoleum from hardwood floors consider heating the linoleum with a heat gun first instead of just peeling it off while it s at room temperature.
